Winter Wishes Programme

Sometimes it’s the smallest act of kindness that can make the biggest difference.

Winter Wishes is a community initiative run by the Lions Club of Karori, created to bring a little extra warmth, kindness and practical support to local people during the colder winter months.

Each year, we invite our community to nominate someone who could benefit from a Special Act of Kindness. It might be an elderly neighbour who needs a hand with their garden, a family going through a difficult time who would appreciate some home baking, someone who needs help with a small job around the house, or simply a person who deserves to know that their community is thinking of them. Our Lions members then work together to grant as many wishes as we can. The wishes don't need to be big or expensive — Winter Wishes is about people helping people and doing something thoughtful that can brighten someone's day.

Our Winter Wishes Programme has now finished for 2026. Throughout the programme, Karori Lions has been privileged to help local people and families with practical acts of kindness — from baking and garden tidy-ups to house cleaning, rubbish removal and other helping hands when they were needed most. Lions wish to thank our project sponsors, Bowen Plumbing and also to everyone who submitted a nomination, supported the programme or helped us grant a Winter Wish. It is the generosity and community spirit of local people that makes Winter Wishes possible.

We’ll be back in May 2027!

Winter Wishes will return in May 2027, when nominations will once again open for people in our community who could use a little extra kindness and support through the winter months.
